The Food of the Gods
1976
Drew did not begin his career at the top. While he worked many
years in other fields of illustration, he began working his way up in
the
film industry from B movies like this one. His classical training
in drawing, painting and composition are evident in this piece.
His
serious and introverted side give this piece a depth that the usual
gory
depiction would never have accomplished. This approach was
refreshing
for that time but also somehow more scary than the blood and guts
approach.
The studio found it to be very successful, giving them a new class they
appreciated.
