A Small Town in Texas

This is an early example of some of what would become the developing technique Drew developed for his work in the movies. He first prepared the illustration board with a coat of gesso to create a painting surface which could be resurfaced at will as need arose with changes. He worked in acrylic paint which dries quickly and is very durable. He finished off the details with colored pencils, leaning heavily on his drawing skills. This technique would continue to evolve but it was his draftsmanship which would become the identifiable characteristic which he would emphasize and which would please his clients. This in concert with his incomparable compositions and spirit made for a force to be reckoned with.
