The Seven-Per-Cent Solution
1976
Another period movie that demanded a period approach to capture the
film's essence. This style is almost vintage Alphonse Mucha, Art
Nouveau. With the black line work and tinted color it hearkens us
back to the early years of the century. Drew's technical
virtuosity
and education is really evident in his ability to work in someone
else's
style and remain true to the spirit as well.
His painting was also radically altered by request after it was
finished.
A new portrait of Nicol Williamson was requested. Drew painted
the
new head on a seperate piece of paper, cut it out and glued it over the
original portrait. But for the slight difference in the level of
the paper, is is very hard to detect.
