Black Beauty
Universal Television 1978
This painting was created back at a time when the first Movies for
Television
were being made. Drew did a number of these jobs for Universal
Studios.
They were new at marketing these made for TV movies. Treating the
advertising much like they would a feature release to movie theaters,
they
hired Drew to paint these "posters". They found, however,
that
they used the art for TV Guide ads as well as in other magazines and
newspapers,
but not as posters. They hadn't yet realized the market for
posting
billboards, wild posting and at bus stops or in the subways just like
for
theatrical releases, even though they had no theaters to post them
at.
One market they did realize was to print books of the scripts and
use the art on the covers, which this picture demonstrates.
